What do you need to book the Life in the UK Test?
You can book the Life in the UK Test online through the official GOV.UK booking service. The test costs £50 and must be booked at least three days in advance.
There are more than 30 approved test centres around the UK, and you can choose where you want to take the test during the booking process.

What ID can you use?
If you have an eVisa, GOV.UK says you should use a share code from your UKVI account when booking the test.
If you do not have an eVisa, accepted identification can include:
- a valid passport;
- a valid EU, Swiss, Icelandic, Liechtenstein or Norwegian identity card;
- certain valid photographic travel documents; or
- in limited circumstances, a biometric residence permit or biometric residence card.
The rules for BRPs and BRCs are currently transitional, so check the latest GOV.UK guidance when you book. As of August 2026, an expired BRP or BRC may only be used within specified time limits and no later than 31 December 2026.
How far in advance do you need to book?
You must book at least three days before your test.
There is no need to wait until you have finished revising before booking. If you know roughly when you want to take the test, booking first can give you a clear deadline to work towards.
Can you request extra help at the test centre?
Yes. If you have a disability or another accessibility requirement, you can make a special request as part of the booking process, such as asking for additional equipment or help accessing the test centre.
What should you do after booking?
Once your appointment is confirmed, make sure you know which identification you will need on the day. Where a physical identification document is required, it must be the original document used for the booking rather than a copy or screenshot.
Then the useful part starts: preparing to pass. The Life in the UK Test gives you 45 minutes to answer 24 questions, so your revision should cover both the material itself and realistic practice questions.
